Smith Drive (aka YMCA Drive) in Beckley, WV.  Beckley, WV has a population of 17,614 and is located in Raleigh County. Raleigh and its surrounding counties have a population of approximately 300,000 people and Beckley serves as a major shopping hub to Raleigh and its surrounding counties.  This intersection is easily accessible via I-64 exit 124, via Route 19 (Eisenhower Drive), or via Route 41 (Stanaford Road).   It is 1.5 miles off I-64, exit 124, 5.5 miles from the intersection of I-64 and I-77, and 1 mile from Route 19 (Eisenhower Drive).  I-77 is a major north-south interstate highway which intersects I-64, a major east-west interstate highway, just 5.5 miles from the site where the two interstates run together for just under 60 miles before splitting again outside of Charleston, WV.  CSX owns and operates an active rail line that runs along the southern part of Beckley and the Raleigh County Memorial Airport which is located on 3,000 acres just 6 miles from the park. Interstate Access:  The site is 1.5 miles from Interstate 64, 5.5 miles from Interstate 77, and 1 mile from Route 19 (Eisenhower Drive). 

 

  • Present and Potential Access:  The sites can be accessed from Joe L. Smith Drive (aka YMCA Drive) or the East Beckley By-Pass.  

 

  • Traffic Count:  The intersection is located just off the East Beckley By-Pass which has an average daily traffic count of 8,000 vehicles and is expected to at least double once the final phase tying into Route 16 (Robert C. Byrd Drive) is complete.  It is 1 mile from Route 19 (Eisenhower Drive) which has an average daily traffic count of 13,700 vehicles and 2 miles from Route 41 (Stanaford Road) which has an average daily traffic count of 13,000 vehicles. The intersection is 1.5 miles off I-64 at exit 124 which has an average daily traffic count of 15,000 vehicles, and is 5.5 miles off I-77 at exit 140 (I-64/Lewisburg) which has an average daily traffic count of 38,500.
